Heirs need to have a certificate of inheritance in order to legitimise their right to dispose of an estate. While such certificates identify recognised heirs, they do not affect the right of any heir to contest a will or contract of inheritance. Certificates of inheritance are not issued ex officio. Any heir can therefore request a certificate of inheritance from us, provided he or she can prove their legitimacy as an heir to the estate in question.
