After a foundation has been established, it may at some point be necessary or desirable to make certain modifications, such as organisational adjustments – or perhaps even an amendment of the purpose of the foundation.

Swiss law distinguishes between organisational modifications, changes to a foundation’s purpose and so-called minor amendments to the foundation charter. All these changes require the submission of a respective request to the supervisory authority responsible for foundations. The rules governing modifications can be more or less restrictive depending on the nature of the change requested.
